Earth Networks & Big Data

Earth Networks – WeatherBug was recently invited to participate in a global media event in New York to launch the “Human Face of Big Data”, a new multiplatform project from acclaimed photographer Rick Smolan aimed at demonstrating the vital role that big data is playing in addressing some of humanity’s biggest challenges.

Human Face of Big Data project is based on the premise that the real-time visualization of data collected by satellites, and by billions of sensors, RFID tags, and GPS-enabled cameras and smartphones around the world, is enabling humanity to sense, measure, understand and affect aspects of our existence in ways our ancestors never have imagined in their wildest dreams.

Thanks to the Human Face of Big Data team, Our CEO Bob Marshall and CMO Amena Ali had a fabulous opportunity to share how big data is inherent to our business. We showed how we’ve harnessed big data and today’s computing power to warn people about severe weather on their cell phones on a minute-by-minute, mile-by-mile basis by processing billions of pieces of data — an achievement that would be impossible without today’s technological advancements.
